man climbs a coconut treeOur countryside, are filled with many heroic tales to tell. The people here, routinely perform such tasks which you or i would never be able to perform, and rather, wish to see at a circus.
This is part 1 of next severals,to describe moments of my visit to a north Bihar district called ” Madhubani “.I will provide the links as i write more.
At most of the villages of the northern districts of Bihar, there grows a tree similar to coconut tree that you may have seen.It belongs to the same family. The local people call it “TAADI”.

It bears fruits similar to coconut at its top,but have different properties. Its juice and secretions are “ALCOHOLIC” in nature. Thus it has a limited consumption.

It is called poor man’s wine, because its so cheap to procure. You only need a tree and some heroic effort to climb it,in order to get it for free.
If you dont have a tree or cant climb it,you may spend rupees 10 or something, and get an ample amount.

How it is collected-
A bunch of people have their own set of trees. One or two of them climb the tree with an earthen pots tied to their belly. At the top, they cut a stalk that starts oozing the watery discharge, something similar to a rubber plant. The pot is tied and left for whole day, only to be collected at night.
The group gets together and the party goes on.

abhinav bindra wins first solo gold for India at olympicsIt was a charming day for india at beijing olympics where India managed to pull their first gold after a gap of 28 years since 1980 hockey gold medal.
This gold medal came for India at the same moment when, for the first time, our hockey team is not able to qualify for olympic games. “what a coincidence”
Not to mention, this is the first solo gold medal for India in 112 years of history of olympic games.
Ahh… it came finally. !
Synopsis of all these,i want to thank The tough and cool lad,Abhinav Bindra for the great achievement.
I hope there will be more medals to come for India at this olympic (hopefully gold, but silver and bronze will also do :) ) and i want to Listen to our national anthem several times.

Cheers to Abhinav Bindra
